Manufacture in Workshop, carved with gouge.
We live with my partner Laura, (painter and ceramic designer) near Mont-Ventoux and this Giant of Provence is my first source of inspiration. I create in my studio and we have the chance to exhibit our productions directly in our gallery. It is in this same workshop that I set up my own forge, which allows me to forge the blades, process the steels and design handles for the manufacture of tools, knives, wooden objects and utensils. I bring a lot of attention to my work, taking into account the sharing of experiences, I have a very personal requirement of learning cutlery and I remain self-taught in my creations, seeking the perfect balance between material and form.
My first area of work focuses on drawing, looking for aesthetic shapes for blades, sleeves, assemblies, decorations or inlay in marquetry or other. There is a lot of spontaneity in the line.
Then there are the materials, textures, wood species and colors that combine with the line. The raw material of the sleeves and objects comes from France and the short circuits surrounding Mont-Ventoux. It benefits from a range of quality wood species. From time to time, a variety of exotic essences are used, only in recycling and scrap recovery and always in small quantities. I also use, in the continuity of my artistic creation process, second-life steels, boards carved by old ones from old buildings. Memory and the traces left are the current of my work. Working in turn on these materials to transform them and bring a new trace by forging them with passion, I create my models and each piece is unique.
Steel quenching is made in olive oil or other water-based solution. The sleeves and objects are bathed in linseed oil and then polished. The utensils are treated with edible oil (sunflower/sesame) more stable over time and polished with beeswax. The steel of the blades is an oxidisable carbon steel, to be maintained after each use (knives, utensils for regular use).
